Berry Camp Update

Enjoying the nice weather while picking berries

Berry Camp has been going great! There are around seventy ladies here, far more than the usual forty, so the pilots flew them in over two days. The weather was challenging, but they got everyone in.

The ladies had an absolutely gorgeous day today picking berries. Because of the crummy weather for the past two days,  it was doubtful things would turn out, but the Lord had a huge surprise for us.

Last year it was freezing cold, windy, and occasionally sprinkling. This year it was the complete opposite: warm (almost hot), with a nice breeze, sunshine, blue skies... It was a blast. Plus, there were tons of berries!

Tonight, they're having a Singspiration and the traditional chocolate bar. For the chocolate bar they have a whole bunch of different fruits, snacks, and candies to dip in a chocolate fountain. The ladies love it.

Tomorrow, the pilots will begin to bring everyone home after the morning session. It will be sad to see everyone leave!

On Wednesday, we flew to Kako with the Tjernlunds. We stopped in McGrath along the way and got to visit with the Sturm's and the other people at the outpost before continuing our journey.

Yesterday, we prepared for camp, decorating the lodge and making the cabins homey for the ladies. In the afternoon, the pilots did two flights each to bring in a handful of the women.

They wanted to bring in some of the ladies early because there are seventy of them signed up for Berry Camp. Just like this year's family camp had more people than ever before, Berry Camp this year also has record numbers.

Be praying for nice weather to bring the ladies in, because it has been very rainy the past two days.

"The person who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed."
Jeremiah 17:7 CSB

On the way to Kako

Elliana was excited to see the Sturms hedgehog in McGrath.

We saw Denali on the way to camp. Denali is on the right and Mt. Foraker is on the left.

Jeff and Billy tried flying to some of the villages farther away earlier today, but they encountered low clouds and had to turn around. Jeff flew back towards camp and picked up some ladies in Russian Mission instead. Russian Mission is less than ten miles from Kako, and it is the closest village to camp.

The pilots took off again around an hour ago, thinking the clouds have lifted enough to get through. But it's currently raining, and a worse weather system may be moving in later today.

You can pray that they will get through the clouds, and that they will be able to get the rest of the ladies in to camp today.

"The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness."
Isaiah 9:2 CSB

Ellesha and I had the chance to visit the cross on top of the mountain near Kako today. God's creation is absolutely breathtaking! It was a bit windy at the top, but the view was totally worth it!" The ladies at Berry Camp seem to be having a blast from the giggles I hear around camp and we start flying them home tomorrow after the morning session.
