Christmastime
Our youth group's float
For the past few years, every time we went to the local Big Lake Christmas parade we wondered, "Why doesn't our church have a float in the parade?" I mean, it's free advertising for Jesus, right 😉?
Well, this year that idea became a reality. Instead of having a normal youth group, everyone built and decorated a nativity-themed float. Then, we chose roles, put together some costumes, and prepared bags with tracks and candy.
Since we were putting together a nativity scene, when we started talking about what to do for animals, Lael's sheep came up. What if we could have real sheep on the float? And so, that's what we did.
On the Saturday before Christmas, everyone came to the church and we drove the float to the starting point at the school. Lael brought seven bales of hay for the float to look more realistic (and for seating). Then, we grabbed some friends to help get the sheep and drove back to our house.
Coco and Bella, two of Lael's sheep, were extremely well-behaved. Lael and I loaded them into our truck with the help of our friends, and then we drove to the school. Once we got to the float, we picked them up and they rode along with us all the way around Big Lake Road.
It was so fun hearing people yell out, "Look, there's sheep!" as we drove by. The sheep were a little scared of the fireworks next to the road, but overall they were very calm and chill about the whole thing.
In the end, 160 tracks and invites to church were handed out, and well as a few pounds of candy. Everyone thought it was super fun and they want to do it again next year.
Other Stuff in December
We're still doing our weekly Good News Clubs at Meadow Lakes Elementary! Elliana has been helping out a little more this year, doing the Word Up and keeping track of points.
Right now, Good News Club is on Christmas break, but we're going to start again in January.
Jeff celebrated his birthday on the 20th. We were going to go to the movie theater and get ice cream at the Big Dipper, but our whole family was sick, so we had ice cream and watched "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" at home.
