Heading to Kako's Family Camp

A picture from last year at Kako.

Today, our entire family is flying out to Kako Retreat Center in Western Alaska. We're excited to see our Kako and McGrath friends again. And we're praying that it doesn't rain the whole time. In 2023, the weather hindered some flights from taking place.

Like last year, we will help prepare camp for our guests and fly staff in. And when everything is ready, Jeff, Billy, and Jonathan Penz will pick up the families.

You can be praying for the weather, for things to run smoothly at camp, and for our health. High-energy days at camp combined with little sleep are the perfect recipe for sickness, as we have discovered. Also, Ellesha is having a flare-up of pain in her foot. It's almost impossible for her to get around when she has this pain, so ask God that her feet will work properly so she can help at camp.

Of course, the most important thing you can pray for is that the Holy Spirit will convict the hearts of our guests. Spiritual stagnation is common in the villages because many times, believers do not have anyone to sharpen them. When you are the only one who loves God among everyone you know, it's extremely difficult to grow. Even so, each year we see God move among his people.

Autopilot

This is the autopilot controller.

The blue Cherokee now has an autopilot! Kaleb King, a friend from church, did the installation work in his hangar. Autopilots are nice because they make long flights not as tiresome. And they free up the pilot's hands to do routine tasks like course planning and checking on the airplane's systems.

The autopilot we installed also comes with several awesome safety features. For example, if you bank the airplane too much, it will take control of the airplane to prevent you from going upside-down.

The "trim" and "A/P Disc" controls are new additions to the yolk that provide a convenient way to adjust some of the autopilot's settings.

This black box is one of the servo motors that allow the autopilot to change how the airplane is moving through the air.
